Winner - Tamayouz Women in Architecture and Construction Award
Dr Jala Al Makhzoumi
Dr Khaled Al Sultany described Jala Al Makhzoumi: ”A remarkable Academic, activist in the field of landscape design. She taught many Iraqi architects who have also considered her as their role model”.
Professor Paul Ivey said: “Jala is an impressive architect and have delivered an excellent portfolio of designs to enrich the built environment within Iraq. She has done this and maintained a shiny set of results showing that architects, and in particular women architects, can transform the lives of people from a unique perspective. Jala is a credit to the profession and to Iraq”.
Angela Brady commented on the achievements of the winner and said: “I was particularly struck by both the international work and the Community outreach through teaching achieved by Jala - “Landscape is about people and places” A huge amount of research work that has clearly benefited the community in many areas. Exploring the overlap between Landscape and Human rights is inspirational as well as her work in seeking recognition for Landscape Architecture as a profession. She has worked internationally and is clearly respected to give so many international symposium talks. A pioneering Iraqi woman indeed.”

Angela Brady’s Comment: “Fituh has achieved a great deal in the area of Health Care Facilities with huge responsibility for architectural design of hospitals which she had clearly build a speciality. Her work consistently helps the community much in need. She clearly has a campaigning spirit which is helping her fellow country folk”.
